Beginning Algebra is a developmental math course at two-year colleges. The course includes factoring, equations, and functions in order to prepare the student for success in college mathematics. Some colleges call this course "Elementary Algebra." Our middle school courses (6th Grade Math, 7th Grade Math, and 8th Grade Math) provide a more complete preparation for algebra. Colleges suggest developmental math courses for students who have completed middle school and high school math but have not qualified for college algebra, which is usually equivalent to high school-level Algebra 2.
