Final Cut Pro 5 supports an unprecedented array of formats in both SD and HD resolutions.
Unlike other solutions, Final Cut Pro 5 acquires HDV media via FireWire and keeps it in the original format, transferring it into the system without any generation loss. Output via FireWire back to an HDV camera or deck, or transfer your native HDV to DVD Studio Pro 4 for an end-to-end native HDV workflow. You can also edit native IMX video from XDCAM and eVTR devices with Final Cut Pro 5. Using software from Telestream (sold separately), video is acquired and the file is flipped from MXF to QuickTime, providing Final Cut Pro 5 with the necessary camera native IMX files for editing. Final Cut Pro 5 is compatible with 30-, 40-, and 50Mbps IMX media.

Tapeless Workflow
Embrace the latest industry trends toward tapeless workflows. Final Cut Pro 5 support for high-speed acquisition lets you transfer files from Panasonic P2 devices faster than real time. A file transfer from MXF to QuickTime provides Final Cut Pro 5 with the necessary camera-native DVCPRO, DVCPRO50 or DVCPRO HD files for editing.

Log and Capture from Tape
Final Cut Pro 5 includes a professional log and capture interface that provides full deck control, logging fields and access to capture and media settings. Set reel, clip, scene and shot name information to increment automatically, streamlining your log and capture workflow.

Real-time Multicam Editing

Multicam editing in real-time? Yes, indeed!
Final Cut Pro 5 introduces real-time multicamera editing tools for DV, SD and HD. This powerful feature lets you simultaneously play back and view shots from multiple sources and cut between them in real time.

Multiclips--a new type of clip that allows you to group together multiple sources as separate angles and cut between them--give you up to 128 angles, of which 16 can be played back at a time. An intuitive synchronization window provides graphical feedback to show where clips overlap so you can accurately create Multiclips. Add, delete or change the order of angles in a Multiclip at any time.

The Multiclip Viewer displays and plays back Multiclips in 1-, 4-, 9- and 16-up layouts. Timecode, clip name and angle number information can also be displayed over each angle.

RT Extreme with Dynamic RT
Built on a scalable software architecture, RT Extreme with Dynamic RT automatically provides better performance and more real-time effects as CPU speeds increase. Real-time effects play back both onscreen and on external video output devices at the best available quality, so you see basic cuts and effects at the highest quality, while effects-heavy sections play at reduced quality or frame rates. Lock quality and frame rate to low, medium or high for an entire sequence or use Dynamic RT to change quality and frame rate on the fly.

RT Extreme processes multiple streams of video effects in real time for OfflineRT, DV, DVCPRO50, IMX, native HDV, DVCPRO HD and uncompressed SD and HD. The number of streams is limited only by your system configuration: The faster the system and disks, the more simultaneous video streams you can work with in real time.

Real-time Speed Changes and Time Remapping
Final Cut Pro 5 applies speed changes in real time with frame blending. In addition to constant speed changes, the Time Remap tool lets you speed up, slow down, reverse or ramp playback speed over time.

Using XML interchange format, you can seamlessly share project, bin, sequence, clip and media data generated by Final Cut Pro with any other application or system that supports XML, including other nonlinear editors, asset management databases and custom post-production pipelines.
