The water looks so real in this video game that you fear your TV might spring a leak. This adventure roughly follows the plot of the movie. In the first level, you try to steer Nemo to school, learning how to swim through bubble rings, pick up pearls, and blast through piles of rocks. Fifteen levels later (we counted 18 plus a bonus game), you reunite Nemo with his father, after hours of mazes, memory games and live clips from the movie. Here are the important details. First, there are little or no noticeable differences between the PS2, GameCube or Xbox versions of this game. Second, some of the levels are frustratingly difficult to complete; especially the gear mazes and the sliding square puzzles. Our testers would've liked more 3D exploring in the game, and noted that controls are awkward for the backward-facing levels. Each level is recorded on an innovative record keeping screen, and it is easy to save games, which you'll need to do often in order to make it through all 18 levels. As with many other videogames, when you "die" you are sent back to the start of the level. There's some wonderful programming in these games, including the fighting the water currents (you really empathize with what real fish have to put up with), the ways you can dart again rocks to move them, or pick up pearls with a fin. The bottom line? This is a beautiful, rich and challenging game with minimal educational value, that will take many days to finish. Developed for THQ by Traveller's Tales.
