Part of the School Zone On-Track software series, these outstanding programs let children practice their first phonics and reading skills in a structured yet entertaining setting. Features include bold graphics, a straightforward sequential presentation of skills and activities, emphasis on mastery and fun study breaks with arcade games. Beginning Sounds effectively introduces children to the alphabet, beginning letter sounds, following directions and eye-hand coordination. In Same or Different, children are provided with 30 simple exercises that help them zero-in on visual differences and similarities. For instance, they are asked to click on the object in a group that is different from the others in the group. Very straightforward stuff, but effective. The exercises become more difficult as the program progresses, and mastery is stressed- kids can't print out their certificate until all exercises are completed correctly. Lest all this sounds dry and regimented, it's not. The graphics are engaging, and entertaining animations and arcade games are interspersed throughout the program. We'd recommend these CDs for preschool classroom or home use. Note that they come with accompanying workbooks.
